How to start Online Fundraising in India for your NGO?
It’s a big question when it comes to raising funds online for charity causes or NGOs.
Being in the industry for 3 years now, I have some tips to give out for the ones who belong to the industry of online fundraising for charity.
Many people from the smaller NGOs look at my profile and call me or come to meet me to know what are my tactics or ideas/approach to raising funds from online channels especially in India.
We all know the Indian mentality differs from place to place, culture to culture when it comes to charity giving. Though we all know “Charity begins at home”, we teach often to our children in the day-to-day life and the schools too try to inculcate this habit to children by promoting HelpAge India for example along with many others (guess, you all know what I am talking about as each one of us has done this).
This piece is written keeping in mind the small-time NGOs (the local NGOs) who want to do fundraising through online channels.
First and foremost, remember if you are to be present online you must have done some positive/quality work that benefited the community that you are located/worked. You should be known in your close circles and among peers and have some on-ground presence with some publicity in press/media. This is called image building or visibility.
You need to start creating profiles on the social media and start showcasing your work, your projects, your agenda, goals achieved and so on (facts & figures, success stories with testimonials are very important here). Please keep building content at every step of your work (images, stories, videos, testimonials, case studies, learning, etc.).
Simultaneously, you will have to work to put a responsive website (which is all device - both Mobile/tabs & Laptop friendly) – meaning, which adapts to the mobile devices of any size and any other devices which are used to browse the website.
